Mindfulness and gratitude can also improve your health. Being mindful isn’t just about meditation exercises, it’s about being aware of how your mind and body are feeling. One of the best ways to help you feel better is to appreciate the goodness in your life and share it with others. This week you will work to foster a more positive outlook in life and share how grateful you are with others.
Action Step:
Start a Gratitude Journal
Gratitude journals are a great way to track the good things in your life. While there are many formal journals available for purchase and some great free apps, making a list is a simple way to get started thinking about the things you are thankful for in your life.
Take a few minutes today to write down 5 things that you are grateful for. Who or what makes you smile?
Keep this list handy as you will need it again this week.
Action Step:
Say "Thank you"
As humans, we are social by nature and our relationships with other people are extremely important for our wellbeing. Think about one person who you are truly grateful for, they may have even been on your list from yesterday. Today let them know how much they mean to you. It can be something as simple as a text or a phone call, or something bigger like a card or gift.
Action Step:
Keep it going and pay it forward
For the rest of the week, add something each day to the list you started on Day 36. By making it a point to focus on the good things, you can "rewire" your brain to think more positively. Even if you had a "bad day," look a little closer to find at least one new thing to add to your list.
